Retired!

Let's see if I did this right! Hopefully I will be able to add some pictures. Only one way to find out ....

This is where it all started. On a rainy day in October, 2021. The first view of the rest of our lives. Here he is, the love of my life pondering this property he had proclaimed to be over our budget.

Here is the front view. The drizzling rain makes the house look like it needs a good power wash. Not to worry, we have one. While I am not a big fan of the screen door entry, this can be changed.

This is the view that convinced HeWho proclaimed this property to be over the budget I had set to make an offer that very day. You can't see it from this picture, but a trout stream with rushing water hides down below. I will eventually get a good shot when I finally start to make some steps down to the water. We are old and do not want to fall and suffer any broken bones! The area behind the stream is never to be developed.

This existing tiny shed will become my sewing room. I know it looks too tiny, but I am nothing if not creative. It has a window on the other side and already wired for electricity. It will do. For now. It needs a porch, don't you think? A cute little porch and a dutch door to the interior so as not to feel claustrophobic in there. I have plans ...

Another existing structure is a screened in room. My son asked if it was a chicken house. No chickens. We put siding on this to be able to put boxes of stuff not going inside the house when the movers finally arrived. We need to trim out the siding and do a real door, but it suffices until then.

This is our private drive going out. We are nestled back in here and you can't really see anything until you are upon it. Privacy, I like privacy. I am counting the days until Spring when I can go outside and play in my new dirt!

    1. The fall colors were awesome! we were here in October an again in December before the final move. I am looking forward to Spring. Can't wait to see what pops out of the ground and add to it. I noticed some shoots and the footprint of some previous landscaping.

    1. She does love her HeWho!! Always looking to see where he is. She is fine with me if he isn't around, but he is definitely her choice human!

  3. Looks like a great place to enjoy a well-earned retirement rest. Don't fall down that hill! :)

    1. The hill is very steep and will be my first project as it warms up. I will be digging out some "steps" and putting up a handrail. Old bones break easy! I do not want steel and concrete, though. I want rustic. I am thinking of that patch of cedars I left when we moved. I am sure I can find some straight limbs and trunks to put into use, though cedars would be my first choice.

  4. I love it! It's exactly the kind of place I would want. Congratulations on your retirement AND your new home. Will you go fishing in that stream? Do the dogs feel at home now?

    1. The dogs love it, and the cat has acclimated nicely. Even the turtle seems to be thriving in her new spot on the kitchen counter where the sun streams in. Rumor has it that trout are fond of the stream. I am not a fisher person, but HeWho is and as soon as I can get some sort of safe pathway down the ravine, he will no doubt spend many happy hours there.

    1. Yes, to all. Mountains and bears are synonymous, as well as deer. Poison ivy is sort of everywhere. I will just have to deal with it. All kinds of lilies came with me and iris, too. The only plant I did not get a chunk of was my tall grasses. I will find some and purchase it, trees first. I bought apples for the first time in 15 years. I see an apple tree in my future.
