A Big Splinter I Can't Remove!

I have a new computer! Bigger monitor and letters on the keyboard and this one is not falling apart. Lighter weight, too. It has taken me a week to jump through a bunch of hoops to get back on Blogger. I will honestly say that I am not really sure how I finally got here. Lots of codes to get in and then it would ask for a password and would not accept it. I changed it four times, then it did not recognize my email address. Instructions were to "click on forgot email". But those words did not appear anywhere.

This is not the most frustrating event of the day. I am still without a fully functioning stove. No, I am kidding. Last Tuesday was supposed to be the day that the second repairman would come and remedy the situation. That did not happen. Supposed to have been a flat tire that prevented the visit and was rescheduled to today.

I was up with the rising sun, awaiting the highly anticipated appointment that was scheduled between 8am and 5pm. As per usual when a stranger enters our humble abode, the canines and I retreated to the bedroom. I was half listening while I tried to convince Mr. BoJangles that he need not attack the man in the other room. He did try to maneuver the pocket door without success and finally retired to the bed to start a fight with Toni Louise. All she did was bark at him, so he tried Eddie. Eddie refused to participate or react in any way. He decided to do what he always does when faced with stress. He crawled next to Eddie and grabbed a hunk of Eddie's and sucked on it. I was hoping he would outgrow this habit.

I heard bits and pieces that did not sound promising. He replaced the igniter and the pressure regulator. Then said we would need to call the gas company again to check the pressure. By the way the last visit cost us $400 for the service call. The repair man did call GE and they said we needed to call the gas company before they would do anything else. So, we will be out almost $1000 to remedy a stove that is under warranty.

I am so done with all this crap. We still have the old stove in storage. I say we tell GE to come get this stove and give us a full refund and put the old stove back in service. We can get a new thermometer to regulate the heat in the oven or I can regulate it with the thermometer I hung on the oven rack. Inconvenient? Yes, but better that having no oven at all.

I don't understand why it worked initially and now doesn't. The pressure was checked by the gas company and found to be sufficient. The burners work fine. I am loathe to pay another service fee to the gas company and feel like GE should pay that first fee. Never have I ever wanted a working oven as much as I do right now! My family will be expecting Christmas cookies! I used the slow cooker to make sweet potatoes today. It was not the same and I doubt I can make a dozen batches of cookies without an oven.

Life goes on, I suppose it is not the end of the world. More like splinter I can't remove.

  1. Congrats on your new computer! After it gets done frustrating you, I hope it helps with all the things you do on one. Oh no, your stove worries continue! So sorry to hear that, and especially this time of year. I do hope the situation is solved soon for you!

    1. I am not really computer savvy, but my son is coming to see us the day after Christmas, so I will have a list of things for him to help me. The stove will remain a thorn in my side!

  2. OY! I would be done with the crap too. Is there a consumer advocate at the local city hall that can run interference for you? Or someone at the local television station that would love a juicy David and Goliath story?

    1. I live in a small town and doubt there is a group I could call on. I have been searching online for a number to call to initiate contact, but so far I have found only ways to contact vendors who carry the product. However, I am nothing if not persistent and just getting started.

  3. what a bunch of shit. I hope I never have to replace my stove as it seems no one makes one that works by your experience. I'd be spitting nails at this point.

    1. The very first model was a Samsung that I agreed to reluctantly, having had a refrigerator that died after only one year. So, I switched to a GE model. This is defective stove #3. Oddly enough the original stove that was here is a GE. It just needed a new thermostat for the oven. Instead, having no grand idea of a Christmas gift for me, HeWho decided to just get a new stove for me. Much like the Samsung behemoth refrigerator he gifted me on my 50th birthday. I have declared that he should NEVER buy me another gift!! Well, unless it is a puppy or a kitten.

    1. I am working on it. Don't be surprised if you see me on one of those consumer report segments on the news! I have threatened that before to get justice .....

    1. I know! I am willing to bet there is some sort of partial blockage to the line leading to the oven, specifically. Otherwise, the burners would not ignite on the stove top. It can't be the gas line from the tank to the house. I deserve a full refund, plus the $400 for the pressure check on the gas line!
