Bargains Make Me Happy

Still dizzy when I make sudden movements or forget and bend over, but, no more meclizine! That might mask the dizziness, but not worth the side effects.

So, yesterday, I was feeling pretty good and wanted to go some where. HeWho is always up for an adventure, so I asked him to take me junking. This is not something he would enjoy under the best of circumstances, but he agreed.

When we began our search for property in this area, we followed the route Siri provided. I was sitting in my place, dogs on my lap, able to look out on only one side of the RV. As we approached Murphy, NC, I noticed that there were thrift stores popping up every 500' or so. You can imagine my happiness at this discovery. On the way back to Missouri, looking on the other side of the road, the same thing, just a little further apart.

Of course, they seemed so far away from my new home at the time. You know how it is when you move to a new place and are still finding your way around. Murphy is not far from me! So yesterday when I got in the truck and we hit highway 64, I told him to turn right and head to Murphy.

We go there all the time, but not where the thrift stores are. On the way out of Hayesville, we stopped at a Reach thrift store. HeWho was confused and said, "But, haven't you been here before?" I laughed and told him that they get new things daily. Silly man, they don't just order stuff to replace what is purchased! You never know what you might find.

He has never shopped a thrift store before, he says they smell funny. They do, but I can overlook that when I am on a hunt for a major bargain. He came in and wrinkled his nose, but stayed close in case I got dizzy. I WAS dizzy, with anticipation!

I found nothing in the first store and we moved along to Murphy and turned down Hwy 19 and into junkers heaven. Stopped at another Reach and HeWho asked if I needed him to go in with me. I told him to just sit while I checked it out.

It was not a very big space and the merchandise was spread out. I did not feel too hopeful. HeWho had asked what I was looking for when we started out. Silly, again, I have no idea until I find it! You just need to be very observant! I meandered through the first space and into a room and there it was, my treasure!

It was near the kitchen stuff on a top shelf. Good thing, since I was alone and did not want to bend over and tempt a dizzy spell. What did I find? Magazine racks. Three of them. Two were hot pink and the other one was black. I am not crazy about hot pink, but for 50 cents, pink is okay. I could have gone to the Dollar Tree and picked some up for $1.25 each, but I got three for $1.50.

I grabbed them and was about to move along when I saw a lazy susan, just the base, mind you, but in good working order (it spun easily). $2, so I grabbed it, as well.

When I showed him my treasures, HeWho was confused. "Why?" was all he said. So, I told him. The hot pink magazine holders are now in the freezer, on their sides, holding the vegetables I put up for winter. You can easily see what is in them. I flattened my packs of veggies when I was putting them in the freezer and they fit nicely stacked. The black one will be installed on the cabinet store under the bathroom sink to hold ...., well whatever I want it too! Could be cleaning supplies, or my curling iron and accessories ....

The turn table, as HeWho called it, still awaits its future use. Have you priced lazy susans lately? This was a steal and will probably end up in the bathroom. If you place all the taller items in the middle and the shorter things on the outside, you can easily find what you are looking for.

He came in the next three stops with me and we left with a vent cover for the bathroom that was brand new for $5 and a tension rod for 75 cents. Why did I buy a tension rod? I will install it under the sink to hold spray bottles of cleaning supplies.

So for around $10, I had a great day.

  1. Wonderful finds all! At first I couldn't quite picture magazine holders...but what a great idea to stack things that are visible. Sorry you still are dealing with dizzy. I have awful ringing in my ears today...and was seeing things moving sideways, so I thought I was dizzy. Would you believe, there I was parked by all these tall brown pillar things, that look like concrete ones to keep cars from bumping into the wall. But as I looked closely I saw they were actually moving in the wind...not concrete here! And I hope your dizziness improves. Keep thinking about inner ear stuff!

    1. My husband has had vertigo a lot. He has no problem with the Meclizine. We think it might be something to do with his last cochlear implant. He has a doctor appointment to find out about it, but it's at the end of November. People could die while they're waiting for their appointment.

    2. I don't know why they are called magazine holders, since magazines can be read online now. Funny how catching something out of the corner of your eye can make you dizzy, happens to me, too. Just up for awhile but not dizzy yet, maybe that will last if I am careful not to bend over!!

    1. After the holidays is a great time to go. People will donate gifts they didn't care for and also get rid of holiday decorations and buy new for the next year.
