Tales From Cujo

Cujo here. Things have been hot and sweaty here. The man in the white truck finally came and did whatever these men called repairmen do and we are finally cool inside. Just in time for the really hot days.

The nights are not nearly so hot. Last night after the man fixed the air conditioner, it was downright cold in our bedroom. I heard Mom ask HeWho is our Dad what temperature he had set the air on. He said 75, but Mom said that it could not be set that high because she was cold. What you should know about this, is that Mom is never cold unless she is sick!

Did HeWho is our Dad get up and go check the thermostat (this is what Mom calls that thing on the wall that tells us what the temperature is)? No, he did not. Mom removed the blankets from the bed when the weather changed. I slept close to Mom and kept her warm. Bo sleeps down at the foot of the bed and he told me that Mom's feet were icy cold. Bo is a good sport and stayed with her feet until he warmed them up. Eddie got up on her pillow to keep her neck warm. She was unable to move, but we kept her warm.

In case you might be wondering about Martha, the boy cat, just take a look. He is becoming fatter and lazier! He likes to lounge around in the yard while Mom waters her plants. He used to go up the hill to the other gardens with Mom, but he is just too lazy to make the trip!

I will admit that Mom would have to carry me up the hill, but Eddie will go with her. She doesn't trust Bo or Toni to go with her. They do not obey her like Eddie and I do. We learned at a very early age that running from Mom was not a good idea. She is not pleased with bad behavior.

I am ready for a nice nap now. Yes it is only a couple of hours til bedtime, but no worries for me, I will sleep all night long!

  1. You're right, Cujo. That Martha is chubby.

    1. Martha eats well. Mom tried portioning his food, but he resorted to eating our dog food! Besides that, he is a good hunter and can capture his own food.

  2. Martha is looking fat and sassy! We had a yellow-striped cat who would put on weight for the winter. When he'd jump down from the porch, he let out an audible, "OOF!" The vet said he weighed 12 pounds, which was about 2 pounds overweight. Which I suppose is a lot for a cat.

    1. Mom has not weighed Martha lately. he assures us all that Martha weighs more than any of us dogs. Bo only weighs 9 lbs, but I must confess that I am close to 16 lbs. Mom says Martha weighs almost twice as much as me! She says he is quite solid!

  3. I do hope your mum isn't sick. And HeWho should have checked that thermostat! Martha is looking quite plump for summertime, most cats eat less when it is too hot. My own cat is eating more now it is winter in Australia and she has put on a whole pound. But she is still only just over 8 pounds.

    1. Martha left normal weight several years ago and says he is not going back! He is still very agile, though I have noticed he doesn't seem to jump over things as much as he used to. Just the other day Mom saw him grab the gate between the bedroom and the rest of the house and move it out of his way to join the rest of us. He had been napping in Mom's bed.
